Frequently Asked Questions About Neurofeedback
What does a normal neurofeedback session consist of?
After the brain map has been done, we will design a personalized protocol to help you with the symptoms you are experiencing. Most appointments last about 30 minutes, and involve a relaxing session watching a video or movie, while wearing a few electronic sensors on your scalp. Headphones for the audio, and a specialized set of photic-entrainment glasses are also utilized in most cases.
How do I Get Started?
Call our office at (818) 957-7107 and set up your free initial evaluation. During this initial visit, we’ll ask that you fill out an initial questionnaire- that takes about 20 minutes. Dr. Yoshi will review the results with you, and then answer any questions you may have, and will determine if neurofeedback training is appropriate for your unique situation. If you both agree that neurofeedback is a good fit for you, the next step is to get a brain map, or qEEG. This test is painless, and the results are used to set up your personal protocol to address the symptoms you are experiencing. After that, the actual training begins. Neurofeedback training sessions are typically done twice a week for 30 minutes at a time.
When will I start feeling better?
Most patients notice initial improvements after 6-8 sessions, typically done over 3-4 weeks.
Why is a brain map needed?
If you are planning to participate in neurofeedback training, an initial brain map or Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG) is needed. Think of it as a “brain fitness evaluation.” The results are used to create your personalized training protocol.

Can neurofeedback change my personality?
No. Neurofeedback training sessions are designed to help you develop new, more efficient pathways. It can help you to be calmer, more resilient to stress, and even think more clearly overall. It will not change your hobbies, interests, or who you are. It will just make it easier for you to live your best life!
Do the results last?
Yes. Remember the old saying “It`s like riding a bike – you never forget,” Neurofeedback training produces the same kind of neural pathway changes – and they stay!
Does neurofeedback interfere with my medications?
Neurofeedback training is a natural process. As a result, there are no side effects, allowing you to continue with your medication regimen. Over time, our goal is to work with you and your prescribing physician to determine if you may be able to reduce or eliminate medications, based on your results.
